3 day tour – Route of 1000 Kasbahs

Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Valley of Roses – Dades Valley

Your Best Travel guide and driver will pick you up from your (Accommodation / Airport / bus station), then escape together for a 3 day/ 2 nights tour from the bustle Marrakech across the picturesque High Atlas by the Tizi’nt Tichka pass at an altitude of 7,415 feet, the highest vehicular pass in Morocco. The road passes through various villages that are typical of northern slopes of the mountains where corn can be seen ripening in the sun on the packed earth roofs of the stone houses. We continue then across the territory of the powerfuk Glaoua tribe where a number of ancient Kasbahs and fortified granaries can be seen before reaching Ait Benhaddou, a fortified village classified by UNESCO as one of the world’s cultural treasures, a break is planned for visiting the Kasbah and having lunch. Our discovery continue towards Ouarzazate, a town stands in the middle of an arid plateau that contrasts sharply with slopes and vegetation of the nearby High Atlas. The town is also ideally situated in relation to original trade and is renewed for its pottery and carpets…, We will get the chance to visit visit the Studio, cinematography museum and the Taourirt Kasbah (your option), then to oases of Skoura with it’s dens palm groves crossed by a network of tracks running between Kasbahs, Ksours and crops… Driving to Roses valley, the fortress of M’Goun…, the “Road of Thousand Kasbahs” follows the Dades valley bordered by a series of traditional Berber houses made by adobe perched on the river sides, sometimes barely distinguishable from the rocks themselves. Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Tinejdad – Rissani – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

After breakfast, we check out, then drive to Tinghir, a former military outpost standing on the banks of the Oued Todra, where olives, pomegranate and orange trees grown. The road through the Todra gorges follows the right bank of the river, covered with palm trees, is one of the most beautiful oases in Morocco, we drive farther east to the narrowest and most spectacular section of the gorges, here, we will have time to wander in the narrow corridor towered by walls of rock. After breakfast we will continue our discovery tour toward Tinghir, once a french military outpost. The road winds upward above a deep, vertiginous canyon, Todra Gorges, we will have time to wander in the narrowest and most spectacular section of the gorges. At noon we leave for Erfoud by crossing the palm grove of Tinjdad and Touroug, here we will stop for lunch. Visit to a workshop production of marble fossils. Then its straight to the impressive town of Merzouga with. Here all unnecessary luggages can be left in safe rooms at the hotel. The one hour and a half camel trek will take us to a Berber camp in the middle of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, some rising of 820 feet), the highest in North Africa. The camp consists of three comfortable Berber tents equipped with mattresses, linen, toilets, a restaurant, and a kitchen. The evening will consist shooting stars show, then dinner followed by a traditional music show and overnight in a nomad camp in tents. (HB)

Day 3: Merzouga – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes

If you can rouse yourself early in the morning you can be rewarded with stunning views of the dunes at sunrise, then mount your camels once more and head back to Merzouga where you say goodbye to your four-legged friends and revert back to motorised transport. Retracing your steps through Erfoud to the dramatic Ziz Gorge, a spectacular gash in the hills that surround Ziz oases, the largest oases in Morocco. The region is dotted with deserted kasbahs, palm trees and mud-brick villages creating a photographer’s paradise. Lunch in Midelt, approached through a bleak plain of scrub and desert. The dramatic peaks of the High Atlas, rising behind the town, provide a spectacular background. The wilderness you cross is incredibly diverse and can vary from rocky, sun-baked plains, to cedar-clad mountains and deep canyons providing spectacular views as you head across the scenery changes around you. In the hills south of Azrou you may be lucky to spot a troupe of Barbary Apes; in fact not a true ape but a species of Macaque monkey. We head on to Ifran, the Switzerland of Morocco.. Having crossed the plains you come to the evocative city of Fes, the cultural capital, is one of the most complete medieval Islamic cities in the world. Our guide will make sure you reach your chosen Riad or Hotel. Here we will leave at your Riad or Hotel at the end of the 3 days tour.
